I am able to import Products without any issue. However, I need to import old Products for historical reasons. However I cannot seem to do this. Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks,

Simon

When you say you are trying to import "old products", does that mean that the input file has an attribute/column corresponding to the "Inactive" setting?

When you try to import or validate, what error message(s) do you get?

The following describes various Error Handling settings that may assist you.

If a property, pick list or lookup error should occur in the import process you can choose how the program handles the record in question. You choose the appropriate action for the different error types in the Error handling group in the Rule Setting pane for each rule in the rule set.

In case of a property error you can choose the appropriate action in the Property error field in the Error handling group. You can choose that the import process shall ignore the record (Ignore), ignore the property (IgnoreProperty) or create the record with no value specified for the property in question (UseEmptyValue).

You can choose between the same options for pick list and lookup errors.

Ken,

Here is the extract from the log file:

2007-06-05T10:52:44 1 Product Change state to "Inactive.Default" Failed. Warning

You are correct; the source data has a flag that indicates an 'inactive' product. However we need these imported as well as we need to map other custom entities to these 'inactive' products (although these products won't appear on a Price List.)

We appreciate that we can filter these record first; import them; then deactivate all teh records. However we would prefer to import the records and set the inactive flag accordingly during import.

Thanks,

Simon

A quick update; what've found by 'accident' is that the status gets set correctly if you update the Products after inserting them. We did the following:

1. imported the enw products - all products created (and their status was set to 'active' by default, even though the data was mapped as 'inactive' for a lot of records.

2. ran the same Product import again, and all products were updated. This then sets the status correctly (mix of active and inactive products.)

No idea why this happens though. Could you explain? Again, why can't the record status be set on the record creation?

Thanks,

Simon

The import manager is following the style of CRM itself.  If you add a product manually, there is no option available to deactivate while you are in "create" mode.

However, once you save the record, the "Deactivate" option becomes available.
