We are trying to implement a custom view where the user can do inline editing of the data in the grid. The data that is rendered is CRM entity data.

The feature is more like the standard ASP.Net datagrid feature where the user can click on the edit button rendered on a particular row and the row is open for editing. The user can update or cancel the changes made and the row would return back to the readonly state.

I understand that it is not a standard MSCRM feature. The c360 grid is amazing in terms of the functionality if offers and the rich styling which blends with MSCRM.

Would it be a good idea to leverage the c360 grid to implement this feature? I would greatly appreciate any design pointers.

This feature has been on our radar screen for a long time. If you look at our product called "Forecast Manager" you'll see our first attempt. It works well but the editable columns are hard coded, the HTML for the edit fields is hard-coded, etc.

If we add this feature to our grid, we want to do it the right way and make it as flexible as possible. For instance, what do you think would be acceptable: our grid would need to support any .NET control just like the .NET grid does or would supporting only a few controls such as simple text box, date picker, etc be sufficient? If you think that only a few controls are enough, which ones are essential?

I agree with you that this would be a great feature to add but it would take a while due to the complexity. In the mean time, let me know what features would be essential and maybe we can put it on our dev schedule for a future release.

Jeremie,

I understand that it is not a easy feature to implement. In fact I am happy that it is in consideration.

If the grid supports the standard CRM controls like the textbox, lookup, radio button, picklist, date picker etc for the first release, it would help all implementations of the grid with CRM data atleast. I think it would be a good start and then gradually extend the framework to support all .net controls.

The current implementation that I am working on need to be released in a month's time and so I am thinking of using the GridView control and code it from the scratch. Of cousse, the features of this grid would be limited.

Please let me know if there is a better way to accomplish this feature in the given limited timeframe?

Are there any updates on this front?

My client is asking whether the grid supports a template column. I can see that the only types supported are Normal, Image, and EntityLink.

Is something like this in the works (in development) or in planning?
Thanks

Any updates on this functionality? Is this available in latest release of SDK?
